I've been building websites for businesses for quite a few years now, and if there's one thing I've learned, it's that a beautiful website and a website that brings customers are two completely different things. People come to me after investing thousands of shekels in a stunning website, and then ask me why the phone isn't ringing. The truth? Most of the time it's not the design at all. There are just a few small things that come up again and again with almost everyone. Here's what I see most often, and what I fix first.
1. It's impossible to understand what you want me to do
I once went to a fitness trainer's website. I scrolled, I read, and I couldn't find where to leave my details. The only button was gray, small, somewhere at the bottom. If I, whose job this is, struggle to find it, your customer doesn't stand a chance.
Decide what the most important action on the page is, just one, and make it impossible to miss. A bold button, in a color that screams, high up, and it appears again as you scroll. Not five buttons competing with each other. One.
2. The website loads slowly, and people just leave
Nobody has patience, and on mobile even less. If the page takes more than three seconds, half the people have already gone back to Google before they even saw you. And that's money you threw away on ads that brought them to your door.
Heavy images are the number one killer. Compress them, switch to modern formats, and use fast hosting. Nice bonus: Google loves fast websites and ranks them higher.
3. On mobile it looks broken
Open your website on your phone right now. Seriously, right now. If you have to zoom to read, if buttons are stuck together, if something scrolls off the screen, you're losing most people. Because most of them come from their phone, period.
I build every website first for mobile, and only then for desktop. Not the other way around. This isn't "nice to have," it's the main thing.
4. There's no reason to trust you
You wrote "the best service in the country." Great. All your competitors wrote exactly that too. So why should I trust you specifically?
What works isn't statements, it's proof. A real review with a name and business, a short video of a satisfied customer, a logo of someone you actually worked with, a real number of projects you've done. One person saying "I worked with them and it was excellent" is worth more than a whole page of superlatives.
5. The form scares people away
I once saw a "contact us" form that asked for first name, last name, email, phone, company name, position, budget, and how you heard about us. The person just wanted to ask one question. He closed the page and never came back.
Every unnecessary field is more people running away. Ask for the minimum, name and phone number, that's it. Ask for everything else later in the conversation. A short form brings more leads, that's just how it is.
6. It's not clear what you even sell
I have a simple test: I go to a page, and if within five seconds I don't understand what you do, who you do it for, and why I should choose you specifically, you've failed. "Welcome to our website" isn't a message, it's filler.
The first heading should say exactly what the customer gets, at eye level, without big words. Someone who lands on you should know immediately: yes, this is for me.
7. Too much noise
A pop-up window, a banner, ten items in the menu, a chat that jumps out, an offer to sign up for a newsletter. Each one of these steals a drop of attention from the one thing you wanted to happen. In the end the person is confused, and when people are confused, they don't call and they don't buy.
Remove everything except what serves the purpose of the page. One path, clear, from beginning to end. Less is much more.
So what do you do about it
The good news: nothing here requires a huge budget. It's a matter of thinking about the person who comes to your website, and what you want them to do. A website built right from day one pays for itself long before a "beautiful" website that just sits there doing nothing.
That's exactly what I do at Autoflowr: build websites designed to bring leads, not just look good. If you want me to check what works for your business, there's a free AI assessment that takes a minute. No commitment, just so you know where to start.
